I'll be honest, I liked the concept behind Fiverr.com.
Only a couple clicks and a client can set an order using a freelancer based on a specific set of deliverables.
Easy peasy, right? Sure, but it comes at a price tag. A significant one.
This is one the couple freelance platforms in which buyers have been given free reign to abuse, sabotage and blackmail vendors any way they like.
In this post, I'd like to talk about a recent bad experience as a seller on Fiverr, and also why I decided to give up on the platform altogether.
(I have been guiding her on building up a respectable accounts, and the way to go beyond and above with every last order. Everything stated is her doing, I'm just an observer.)
In cases like this, she had only gotten another $5 sequence on her logo gig, which appeared to be like any other... or so we thought.
The purchase was fulfilled in great time, and my buddy had even included a bonus emblem concept as well as the source file (which is usually a part of the more expensive package).
The client"loved" among those concepts so we moved to send her the appropriates file sizes, as stated in the final description. Soon after, things got a little weird.
The client came back requesting a social media kit to choose the logo, something which is obviously not offered as part of her gig.
Against my advice, my buddy decided to deliver the further job, although not getting paid any extra for this.
Following that, the client responded with even more demands and a few adjustments to the social networking like it files.
At this point, she concurred enough was enough.
Despite every effort to please this person, they were clearly overstepping their boundaries here.
That is when the client went from simply overstepping bounds to unquestionable blackmail. (The equivalent of taking my girlfriend Fiverr reputation hostage.)
While she took a while to ponder a response and reach to Fiverr service for assistance, the client did eventually go on and leave a 1 star review.
Presumably this is to show her he/she was fiverr review - Virtual Assistant Reviews not kidding.
Shortly after, while still waiting on Fiverr's answer to the service query, the customer paid an extra $10 for the social networking kit.
Obviously, the payment has been accompanied by still another threat.
At this point, all I wished to do was move all Liam Neeson and search this person down so that I could repeatedly punch them in the face.
However, at the time, I still had hope that Fiverr service would step in and save my girlfriend out of this PITA client.
When the response came from Fiverr service, they told her they couldn't Honest Fiverr Review: Is It Legit Or A Scam? – Jon – Medium induce the purchaser to accept the purchase.
Alright, that is reasonable enough. (though the buyer already accepted it, technically.)
They also proposed drawing up a list for the buyer to demonstrate the job was completed in accordance with the gig prerequisites.
Honestly, this response simply didn't cut the mustard.
My girlfriend communicated in her first email the client was attempting to extort her for free work outside the agreed terms, by making a negative review if she didn't comply.
Obviously, it wasn't about the work, it was about seeking protection from an abusive client who was intentionally pushing his luck.
Their reply did not give either of us some confidence that Fiverr actually understood , and even at this stage we felt as though they didn't wish to get involved.
At precisely the same time, she also responded to the buyers newest threat, explaining that she would not continue to function with them unless the comments had been changed/removed.
(Again, this is feedback which was clearly and blatantly made to intimidate her into supplying function out of the agreed conditions )
An honest request by anyones standards, correct?
Rather than acknowledge what the buyer had completed until this point, Fiverr instantly turned the tables on my girlfriend.
Turns out, she had been the only breaking all the rules.
Since she'd requested the client to modify their opinions, she was no longer entitled to some assistance from Fiverr support.
It is possible to imagine how we felt studying this.
What the buyer had done and said prior to her very last message was now being swept under the rug -- like never happened in any respect.
Fiverr basically chose to encourage a manipulative bully, leaving my girlfriend using a permanent stain on an account she had worked so tough to build up.
If everything that happened was not upsetting enough, it is knowing that this man is still running rampant on Fiverr, preying on defensless vendors without a sprinkling of repercussion.
And think, there are loads of buyers doing exactly that on Fiverr, knowing they can and will get away with it.
But as most this was occurring, I did some research to determine if any other vendors went through a similar ordeal with an individual purchaser.
Very quickly, I found a number of almost equal cases over the Fiverr forum dated years back. (that's right, years.)
This is clearly something which's been happening for a long time and it all stems from providing buyers too much power over sellers.
When there's 1 thing I have learned about Fiverr, it is that customers are ALWAYS more appreciated than freelancers.
Doesn't matter how much time you put into a project, or just how hard you've worked on itor even how well you handled communication during a dispute, even when it actually comes down to it... freelancers have little to no protection.
Even when it is a clear cut case in your favor, there's still every chance the customer will come out at the top. It takes it one little thing that you"did no way" in accordance with their own conditions of service and EVERYTHING else is ignored
Looking at the signs, it's clear to me which Fiverr is well aware of what is going on, yet is still willing to settle back and let it happen.
If you are a decision maker at Fiverr and you are reading this, then I implore you to seriously reconsider your current support procedures for freelancers.
It is not right that somebody can set all that time and effort in building up an account and also over-delivering at every possible chance, just to be taken down from the very people that you rely on to protect you.
Look, I don't wish to abandon Fiverr. I really don't wish to be telling folks to avoid your platform.
But after everything that's occurred, you haven't left me any decision.
Until something is done in order to shield freelancers from this kind of abuse, I will continue to propagate this article and do whatever I could to stop others from falling victim to a one-sided support team.
The next you truly do something about it and provide freelancers a means to fight back, I will be more than happy to update this post.
